Intellectual property (IP) plays a critical role in an organization’s life cycle and helps recognize innovation’s value in stakeholder’s eyes.  We, Rapyuta Robotics, an ETH Zurich spin-off with offices in Tokyo (Japan), and Bengaluru (India), enable our partners and consumers to build robotics solutions. We have created multiple products viz a next-gen Cloud robotics platform, rapyuta.io, and an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) solution. Our goal is to innovate, and we aim to develop cutting-edge technology as per the robotics industry’s dynamic requirements. At Rapyuta Robotics, IP is a crucial asset that gives us a validation of our product quality and builds trust with our consumers and investors.

With 13 US and 3 PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) applications, we continue to build our IP portfolio, focusing on protecting our core inventions. Recently, the US patent office (USPTO) granted three patents and allowed another four patent applications. Also, the International Search Authority (ISA) recommended one of our PCT applications as a novel invention. Our plans for the PCT applications include filing them in other jurisdictions like JP, EU, etc. We are confident that our inventions will smoothly sail through other Patent offices with high-quality grants.

Now, let’s deep-dive into our granted and allowed patent applications received so far. As mentioned earlier, we have got an allowance for one design patent, D29/685,097 for our PA-AMR solution, and two patent grants for the core product feature of our Cloud Robotics platform, rapyuta.io. The utility patent US10,596,704 focuses on generating, simulating, and executing a reusable robotics solution that may involve robots manufactured by different hardware manufacturers.  This patent is aligned with our platform’s mission to help develop a customized robotics solution by integrating hardware and software components.

Our second utility patent, US10,800,042, centers on executing centralized and decentralized controlled plans. This patent is a core and fundamental patent which enables the underlying framework of rapyuta.io, to coordinate multiple autonomous mobile robots (AMR) collaboratively. The patent involves controlling the plan execution for the heterogeneous AMRs, a non-deterministic polynomial-time hard problem (NP-hard problem).

USPTO has also allowed four patent applications, US20190089597A1(‘597), US20190087161A1 (‘161), US20190089602A1 (‘602), and US20190089799A1 (‘799). The first allowed patent application ‘597 focuses on a device manager that manages multiple AMRs. The second allowed patent application ‘161 focuses on building and deploying cloud applications on cloud and heterogeneous devices. The third allowed patent application ‘602 focuses on deploying an instance of a cloud application bound to a deployed instance of a software service. Finally, the fourth allowed patent application ‘799 focuses on message communication between heterogeneous devices with the help of a communication bridge. All four allowed patent applications protect different inventive aspects of our Cloud robotics platform and upcoming products. These inventions allow our customers and partners to build and deploy cloud applications without worrying about the hardware and software complexities involved in bringing multiple robots to collaborate in an operating environment. We have also filed patents in navigation, route planning, congestion avoidance, dynamic strategies for handling multi-robot coordination, deploying cloud applications, and awaiting a response from the patent office.

At RR, we follow a rigorous and intensive invention harvesting procedure for filing high-quality inventions. These filings align with our core products and our business vision of having a single platform for our customer’s robotics needs.  We are committed to continually improve, build confidence, and develop trust in our products as we grow our business and create a robust IP portfolio. We have plans for more exciting products and are working towards augmenting our IP for those products in different jurisdictions.

We are also pleased to announce that RR has joined the LOT Network, a global non-profit community of companies that protects LOT members against potential threats of costly patent troll litigation. With 1000+ members and 2.7+ Million patent assets,  LOT members have immunity against the patent trolls for the entire life of the patents in the patent asset pool. We believe that joining LOT Network will enable us to focus on the innovation and growth of RR while avoiding distractions from trolls.

We will share more information about our growing IP and our robust product portfolio in the coming days. Till then, be safe, and let Rapyuta partner with you for your robotics solutions!
